Tempest Desert was my first film I worked on that actually looked like a legitimate film production. Thrust into the fire, I suddenly found myself second-in-charge on a set that swelled to 30 people strong over 4 shooting days.
The film is starring, written and directed by my incredible friend Talita Maia, an Brazilian actress with a large following in her home country. The film also features actors Evan Williams (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Versailles), Allie Gonino (The Lying Game) and Idalia Valles (Queen of the South). And even though I was busy on set handling assistant director/producer duties, I even have a small cameo as a suspicious drug man!
While it was oftentimes a hectic shoot, it was exactly the type of educational experience I needed to understand how to efficiently run a set. It helps that the crew was absolutely incredible to work with, which isn’t a surprise considering how incredible a person Talita is. Everyone there was truly invested in bringing her vision to life.
